Answer
The stopping rule in these examples is a learning target rather than a round number. Bullet’s trainer says he wants one good turn. Kodak’s handler ends after a particular heel-and-turn improvement. Louie’s trainer says a difficult down may be the only down repetition of that session because he wants that repetition to be effective. The point is not that every dog needs exactly one repetition; it is that a successful answer should not automatically buy more work.
Quality also needs a definition. Bo’s handler notices less resistance than on the first attempt. King’s lesson argues for a few clear repetitions within play and rest rather than a long flat session. Dutchess and Luna provide additional explicit decisions to finish on a useful response. Different tasks therefore have different endpoints, but each endpoint can be named.
The phrase end on a high note must not become an obligation to keep going until a struggling dog finally succeeds. The related dog-reading and heat concepts can end or change the session first. Nor does one improved repetition demonstrate permanent mastery. A later, appropriately spaced test is a different task. Claims in the older arcs that the last repetition is the one stored in memory are stronger than the observation supports; the draft retains the trainers’ stopping rationale without presenting a special memory law as established fact.

Before practice, decide with the trainer what a useful successful repetition looks like. When it arrives, deliver the intended release or break; do not add repetitions merely to reassure yourself.
